RIP JD Salinger →
I freely admit that I was one of the millions of teens who read The Catcher in the Rye and found a spiritual and ideological comrade in Holden Caulfield.
The New Yorker has posted Salinger’s stories from the magazine’s archives.
Now to see what happens with all of Salinger’s never-seen writings.

Insert cliche involving blast and past
Manuscript just came across my desk — it’s a revision of a textbook I used to teach from in my academic days.

Tacky
It’s taken me (redacted) no. of years, but I accept that my taste runs towards the…tacky. This is especially true when it comes to home decor. So I’ve been looking for a fabulous lamp in the manner of one from a beloved postcard (sent many moons ago by none other than our gal Seedy Sadie):

Bad week for Borders

Some books I'm looking forward to
The Surrendered, Change-rae Lee. While Lee’s last (and most commercially successful) book Aloft was a little cheesy, his first book, Native Speaker, is one of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever read. The haunting, sometimes agonizing A Gesture Life is also one of my favorites.
A Visit from the Goon Squad, Jennifer Egan. Another writer whose last work fell somewhat flat,...

This is rad. I’ve sad it before, but I can only hope to someday become an important enough personage in the world of letters and/or lolcats to have my own papers housed in a grand academic library.
